Here’s a super simple recipe for homemade garbage disposal cleaning cubes.  You can whip up a batch in five minutes or less and store in your freezer for anytime your garbage disposal needs a little pick-me-up.

If you read my blog post about simple homemade cleaners, you know that I’m really getting into cleaning with vinegar.

White distilled vinegar is cheap, environmentally-friendly, and can be used to kill bacteria, mold, and germs.  It’s also all-natural, non-toxic, and frequently used in the kitchen for cooking.

Lemons are edible, environmentally-friendly fruits that are also natural disinfectants.  Plus they smell freaking great.

Vinegar + lemon = one sweet-smelling cleaning machine.

I’ve been using lemon peels to clean and deodorize my garbage disposal for years, but lemon peels PLUS vinegar?!  GENIUS.

I didn’t put much effort into cleaning my garbage disposal before now, but now I find myself looking for excuses to grind some frozen cubes.  (Cooking with onions and garlic?  Welp, better add a couple of cleaning cubes to the garbage disposal too!)

I love that these homemade garbage disposal cleaning cubes are frozen because they force the garbage disposal blades to slice and dice and get covered in vinegar.  Seems much more effective than simply pouring liquid vinegar down the drain.  Plus, I just love the smell of lemon coming from my sink.

Here’s how you can quickly whip up a batch of your own.

Homemade Garbage Disposal Cleaning Cubes

Ingredients

• The peels from 3 lemons
• 1.5 cups of distilled white vinegar

Directions

1. Chop peels into small pieces and add to one ice cube tray.
2. Pour vinegar evenly into the ice cube tray.
3. Place ice cube tray in freezer, and freeze.
4. Remove cubes from tray and store in a gallon-sized plastic freezer bag. (You’ll want to do this soon after they’re frozen so your whole freezer doesn’t smell like vinegar.)

To Use

• Add two cubes to garbage disposal.  Turn on water and run disposal until ice is chopped.  (About 30 seconds.)
